Introducing Apache Hop 2.12.0

After two months of dedicated work across 58 tickets by 11 contributors, the Apache Hop community announced the general availability of Apache Hop 2.12.0. This release focuses on strengthening platform stability through bug fixes while introducing new features designed to enhance workflow efficiency, security, and ease of use.

Introducing variable resolvers

This release introduces Variable Resolvers, a more consistent way to handle variables across all metadata objects within Apache Hop.

Apache Hop 2.12.0 introduces three types of variable resolvers, each tailored for specific use cases:

  • Pipeline Variable Resolver: Ensures consistent interpretation of variables across pipelines, reducing potential errors and bringing clarity to complex workflows.
  • HashiCorp Vault Resolver: Designed with security in mind, this resolver integrates seamlessly with HashiCorp Vault, enabling secure management of sensitive information like tokens and credentials directly within Hop.
  • Google Secret Manager Resolver: Connects directly to Google Secret Manager for secure, efficient retrieval of credentials and sensitive variables.

These resolvers offer a standardized, flexible approach to variable management, making your workflows easier to maintain and more secure.

Significant platform improvements

Beyond bug fixes, Apache Hop 2.12.0 brings a range of enhancements aimed at improving user experience and expanding the platform’s capabilities. Key improvements include:

  • Enhanced REST Connection Metadata: This update offers greater flexibility and reliability when integrating external APIs into workflows, improving how REST connections are managed and reused.
  • New Impala Database Support: Responding to community feedback, Apache Hop now supports the Impala database with a dedicated type and dialect, facilitating smoother integration with Impala-powered environments.
  • Improved Text File Output Transform: The text file output transform now supports a rounding type for numerical values, allowing for precise formatting and better control over data presentation.
  • Refined Syntax Highlighting: SQL and scripting transforms now feature improved syntax highlighting for better readability and usability. This enhancement makes it easier to spot errors and improves clarity, particularly for complex queries.
