Apache Hop 2.15 is available

The Apache Hop community has just dropped version 2.15.0. After three months of collaboration, testing, and refining, this release closes 95 tickets by 17 contributors, a mix of bug fixes, quality-of-life improvements, and new features that make Apache Hop more powerful and user-friendly than ever.

At know.bi, we work with Apache Hop every single day, so we love seeing how the project continues to grow and evolve. A huge thank you to every contributor, tester, and user who made this release possible. Your feedback, bug reports, patches, and enthusiasm are what keep Apache Hop moving forward.

So, what’s new in 2.15? Let’s dive in.

Google Sheets Output: re-create sheets and proxy support

When exporting data to Google Sheets, you now have more control over how sheets are managed.

Until now, Apache Hop would either empty the sheet before writing or append data. With the new re-create sheet option, you can fully delete and recreate a sheet instead. This avoids issues with Google Sheets versioning that can build up if you’re writing to the same sheet every hour for months or years.

And yes, there’s now proxy support for Google Sheets connections too, making it easier to work in restricted network environments.

DuckDB upgrade

DuckDB, one of our favorite lightweight analytics database, has been upgraded from 1.2.0 to 1.3.0.0. That means faster queries, better compatibility, and new features, right inside Apache Hop.

Databricks dialect support

If you’re working in Databricks, good news: Apache Hop now speaks your language.

With a brand-new Databricks database dialect, Apache Hop generates proper SQL and connects to Databricks environments, with primary support for Unity Catalog.Apache Hop Databricks database dialect

SQL Editor gets syntax highlighting

A small but mighty change: the SQL Editor in Apache Hop now supports syntax highlighting. Your queries are now much easier to read, write, and debug directly in the Hop GUI.

Workflow execution status feedback (remote engines)

Running workflows on a remote engine?

Apache Hop 2.15 now provides real-time execution feedback, so you can track progress, confirm everything is running smoothly, and quickly spot issues, even when the work is happening remotely.

Janino Expression Engine upgrade

The Janino library, used internally in scripting transforms like JavaScript, User Defined Java Class, and User Defined Java Expression, has been upgraded from 3.1.11 to 3.1.12.

That means better performance and stability when evaluating expressions, faster and more reliable transforms.

Bug fixes & quality-of-life improvements

Of course, no release would be complete without fixing bugs and smoothing out the experience. Here are some highlights:

  • Real-time metrics & logs now update properly after each run.
  • JSON Input handles keys with dots (.) correctly.
  • YAML Input correctly clones rows to avoid data corruption.
  • GUI fixes: copy/paste (CTRL+V) works in the search perspective, dataset editing doesn’t lose focus, and “OK” buttons apply changes reliably.
  • Azure Storage plugin reports accurate last modified times.
  • File Metadata transform only runs when it has input rows.
  • Multiple NullPointerExceptions eliminated for better stability.
  • OracleBulkLoader now fully supports manual URLs.
  • Concat Fields respects field enclosures properly.
  • Documentation on parallel execution with JOIN has been improved with clearer guidance and examples.

…and plenty more. You can check out the full changelog here.
